Mental Coaching: Improving Employee Communication

Professionals in football, baseball and basketball have long understood the validity of mental coaching. Good professionals understand the need to be properly prepared for any individual match. What we are telling you now is that many of these same mental coaching techniques are completely applicable to business communication.

Improving the communication process between company executives and personnel can be hard. The division between these two groups is natural. You will find divisions because, most often, there are differences in education, income, and power. With the proper training, both groups can learn to work together. This will be very beneficial for the company in the long run.

The best way to spur your employees on to being able to communicate themselves in the most effective way possible is to weed out negative beliefs that can get in the way of their job. An employee who think that executives are insensitive to new ideas, for example, may be less likely to want to share his new ideas, which can stunt the creativity process.

Yet an alternate way to improve overall communication in this style of coaching is to come up with "game plans". In this approach, the groups must work collectively to decide upon an overall goal and then determine the path they need to take to reach it. This rule of mental coaching allows for the several departments to take on specific areas of work without the fear that they are outside of their element or working on something they should not be.

When acting as a mental coach for sports, there is another rule to abide by: Improve your trust in the rink, course, or court. But in business, there are no rinks, courses, or courts. But executive need to know how to trust each other and thereby make the business succeed. Many times, executives feel that if things need to be done right, they must do it themselves. Business leaders must have the faith that other employees they hired can do the important jobs of the company.

The single most significant thing that can be achieved through mental coaching is convincing everybody that they really are all on the same page. Once all of the personnel trust each other and believe that what benefits the country benefits the individuals, the rest follows naturally.
